TUTORIAL 2022: Installing custom songs in Beat Saber for Oculus Quest 2 without a PC

Today I come to bring you a new tutorial on how to install custom songs in Beat Saber for the Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 platform without a PC and in a few simple steps.

Many of you had asked for it since the tutorial we had on our website was a bit outdated and in some cases SideQuest was giving problems. In addition there are now different methods much faster and easier to include custom content.

In this tutorial I will show you how to install the songs you want in Beat Saber for the Oculus Quest version with the help of an Android phone.

In addition you will also have available soon another new tutorial to install custom Beat Saber songs on SteamVR and Oculus PC to play with your PC through your Oculus Quest with Airlink.

What we will need

  • Oculus Quest 2 with Beat Saber purchased
  • Android phone (iOS is not supported)
  • USB-C cable (the original Quest 2 cable works)
  • bugjaeger App
  • Latest version of BMBF

1 – Activate the developer mode on our Android phone

Now I’m going to show you how to put the developer mode on your cell phone, I’m going to do it with a Xiaomi, but the steps to follow are similar in all devices with this operating system.

We will have to go to Settings and then open the phone information section. Once inside we look for the serial number or Android version and press repeatedly.

Then we will see a message asking us if we want to activate the developer mode of our phone, click on Yes and we have access to the developer options.

1.2 – Allow USB debugging

Once with our developer mode on our phone we will go to the “Developer Options” section that has been unlocked on our phone.

In the case of Xiaomi phones we click on “Additional Settings” and then “Developer Options” and scroll down until we find the “USB Debugging” option.

We activate this option and you are ready to install and use our phone via USB to install data packages on our Oculus Quest or Oculus Quest 2.

1.3 – Activate the developer mode in Oculus Quest 2

IMPORTANT: If you already have your viewer with developer mode because you have used Sidequest and Sideloading, then you can skip this step and go to the next one.

In case this is your first time modding for Oculus Quest or Oculus Quest 2 then I recommend you to visit our tutorial to create and verify a developer account in Oculus.

In a few simple steps we will create a fictitious organization, after that we go to the Oculus Android app where we connect to our viewer and in the options we activate the developer mode.

2 – Download Bugjaeger

We could say that the complicated part of this tutorial is over, the next steps will be very brief and soon you will be playing your favorite Beat Saber custom songs on your Oculus Quests.

We have to go to the Play Store on our Android and download the BugJaeger app or if you prefer you can do it directly from this link.

WARNING: Do not touch any of the options of this application that we do not indicate in this tutorial or you could cause failures in your cell phone.

2.1 – Connecting the phone to the Oculus Quests

Now we will connect our mobile device to the Oculus Quest or Oculus Quest 2 using a USB-C cable, the same cable that comes with the Oculus Quest 2 works.

But if for some reason this cable does not work for your phone you just have to make sure you get one that allows data transfer, because if it is only charging it will not work.

Both in the BugJaeger application and in the Oculus Quest 2 we will see a pop-up window for us to give permission to transfer data between devices.

To check that our cell phone and our Oculus Quest are synchronized we can go to the “Packages” section where we will find a list with the applications installed in our viewer.

3 – Download the latest version of BMBF

Now let’s download the mod that will allow us to introduce songs natively in our Oculus Quest 2. The first thing to do is to download the latest stable version on its official website https://bmbf.dev/stable.

As of today the mod works with Beat Saber version 1.13.2, but if you are watching this tutorial in the future it is likely to be compatible with a later version.

Still if it is not the same version you have right now installed on your viewer you can download any older version at https://computerelite.github.io/tools/Oculus/AppVersions.html.

3.1 – Donwgrade for Beat Saber (if necessary)

Once downloaded the BMBF version must match our version of Beat Saber of Oculus Quest in case it is not the same we will go to https://computerelite.github.io/tools/Oculus/AppVersions.html and download that version (in this case the 1.13.2).

The download will give us a file called Beat_Saber.apk that we are going to use with the free BugJaeger application and that will be located in the downloads folder of our Android phone.

To perform the Donwgrade process we have to uninstall the current version that we have in our viewer to make way for the installation of the old version.

Once removed the old version we go to BugJaeger and we give the icon with the symbol (+) at the top right and check “select apk file”, select Beat_Saber.apk and just wait to finish the installation.

3.2 – Check the version of Beat Saber

We have just installed an old version of Beat Saber in our viewer, from now on whenever we want to use it we will get a popup window saying that there are new versions.

As long as BMBF has not released a new mod compatible with later versions of Beat Saber we will always have to say run the game without updating ignoring this message.

Then we will check that Beat Saber is running in the version we want, in this case 1.13.2 but if you are watching this tutorial in the future, in the version compatible with BMBF.

4 – Install BMBF

In step 3 we have already downloaded the latest stable version of BMBF now only remains to install it on our Oculus Quest or Oculus Quest 2.

To do this we open the BugJaeger application and follow the same procedure we used to downgrade the Beat Saber version.

Click on the (+) symbol at the top right, select “select apk file” and look for the file named com.weloveoculus.BMBF.apk in the download folder. We wait for the installation to finish before disconnecting the viewer from the cell phone.

5- Using BMBF to install Beat Saber Custom songs

The BMBF application will not appear in the main Oculus Quest library. To find it, just enter the library, select the filters tab at the top right and select “Unknown Origins”.

Select BFBM, this will open a new window, click “Continue” and then ask us to uninstall the Beat Saber application and then patch the game and leave it ready for the mods.

Finally, once all this data is installed, we need to reinstall the game, click on the “Install” button, it will ask if we want to restore the application, and click on Close.

Now we have our Beat Saber ready to install songs from the BMBF catalog and add mods.

6 – Downloading custom songs for the first time in Beat Saber

Once finished, we will see the BSaber.com website where we can download in Oculus Quest and Oculus Quest 2 the best custom songs for Beat Saber whenever we want without the need to connect our viewer to a pc.

BMBF will be saved in our viewer in the section Television>Channels as if it were another channel and will not jeopardize the integrity of our Virtual Reality viewers.

Now comes the best part, you can browse the application to see the best songs of the week, month or from the beginning, see the most downloaded or simply add your favorite songs.

In each song you can see the different difficulties that brings that version, listen to the song, see how many people liked it, download it and even see a video of what it would be like to play it.

To download just click on the down arrow and then on the top right “Sync to Beat Saber” so that the application creates the necessary files in the game for your song to appear. If we skip this step it is possible that your song will not appear in the game.
