Do you need to keep your iPhone screen always on for a certain amount of time, but after a certain number of seconds, the display automatically goes to standby and you don’t know how to cope with it? I’d say then that you’ve landed on the right tutorial, at the right time. With today’s guide, in fact, I would like to explain to you exactly how not to turn off the iPhone screen.
Before you can be alarmed at who knows what change to make to the settings of the device, I want to specify that it is not a complicated operation, indeed. All you have to do is put your hand to the settings to turn off the screen of the “applephone” and adjust its operation according to your needs. Believe me, it takes a lot longer to explain than to practice!
So? How about we finally put the chatter aside and start getting busy? Yes? Great! So, get comfortable, grab your iPhone and start concentrating on reading the following. I’m sure that, in the end, you’ll be happy and satisfied with what you’ve learned and, of course, with your success. Want to bet?
Getting Started
Before we get to the heart of the tutorial by explaining how not to turn off the iPhone screen, there are some preliminary information that I must give you to allow you to be perfectly clear on what to do.
First, keep in mind that iOS automatically turns off and locks the iPhone screen after a certain period of inactivity in which the display is not touched, which by default corresponds to 1 minute.
The behavior just described can be very appropriate for various reasons, first of all to save battery consumption and thus increase the autonomy of the device and to protect your privacy and increase the security of the iPhone.
There are, however, some cases in which automatic screen shutdown can be annoying or even counterproductive. As a practical example, it can be convenient to keep the iPhone display always on when you need to show the operation of an application, you need to play a presentation or, again, you need to show a photo album to someone going beyond the timeframe foreseen for the automatic stand-by of the display.
The result in question can be achieved by putting your hand to the settings of iOS, adjusting at will the settings related to the automatic lock of the screen and / or the use of Face ID when the display is looked at and, therefore, the user’s gaze is detected.
Going to disable the automatic lock screen is good to remember, however, that in order to lock it again you will need to intervene manually, or by pressing at the appropriate time the side button or the top button (depending on the iPhone model used).
Also keep in mind that the automatic shutdown of the iPhone screen is disabled directly by iOS itself in conjunction with the execution of specific activities for which it is essential that the screen of the “applephone” remains always on, such as when playing a video or when you start the Camera app to take pictures or record movies.
How not to turn off the iPhone screen
At this point I’d say we’re there: we can finally get into the heart of the tutorial and go to find out, specifically, how not to turn off the iPhone screen. You’ll find explained how to proceed just below, putting hand both to the settings of iOS related to the automatic lock, both to those dedicated to Face ID.
Adjusting the automatic lock
In order not to make the iPhone screen turn off, you can first adjust the settings related to the device’s auto-lock display. As anticipated, it’s a real piece of cake!
To do so, take the “apple”, unlock it (if necessary), access the home screen and/or the iOS App Library and select the Settings icon (the one shaped like a gear wheel).
In the new screen that you are now shown, tap on the Screen and brightness, then the Auto-lock and choose the Never option. That’s it! From now on, your iPhone screen will not turn off.
If you have second thoughts or if you want to apply different timings for the auto-lock than what you previously set, just go back to Settings > Screen & Brightness > iOS Auto-Lock and select the previously set option or another one of the available ones (e.g. 30 seconds, 2 minutes, 3 minutes etc.).
Adjusting gaze detection
If you’re using an iPhone model that supports Face ID, another way to prevent the iPhone screen from turning off is to adjust the settings related to the feature in question, more precisely those related to screen detection.
To do this, take your iPhone, unlock it (if necessary), go to the home screen and/or the iOS App Library and select the Settings icon (the one shaped like a gear wheel). In the screen that is subsequently shown to you, tap on Face ID and Code and type in the unlock code set on your iPhone
Finally, turn ON the switch that you find under the heading Gaze Detection. Done! From now on, your iPhone will check when you look at the screen before blanking it (as well as expanding a notification when screen lock is on and lowering the volume of some alerts).
In case you have second thoughts, you can disable this feature at any time by simply going back to Settings > Face ID and iOS Code, typing in your iPhone’s unlock code, and moving the toggle next to the Gaze Detection option to OFF.
