To get everything back to normal, you’ll have to follow a whole series of troubleshooting procedures and that you can find in this guide. Restart your smartphone
If on your Android device you can’t hear any sound with Telegram, the first thing I suggest you do is to restart your smartphone. Many times this simple step is enough to bring the app back to normal. If, however, even after a restart, Telegram still does not play, then go to the next solution
Make sure your smartphone is connected to the internet
Telegram may not be ringing because you are not connected to the internet or you are using a very weak signal that does not allow you to use the service properly. You can either move to a place with a better internet signal quality or, if you have the possibility, you can try switching from data to Wi-Fi and vice versa to better understand what could be causing the app to malfunction. If your internet connection doesn’t give any problems, but Telegram still doesn’t play, then read the other solutions below
Make sure you haven’t set the volume too low
Sometimes the problem with Telegram not ringing can be caused by the phone volume level being set too low or silent. Try setting your phone’s volume level to maximum, then check if doing so has solved the problem
It is very important that Telegram is always updated to its latest available version. So proceed with updating the app if there is one, this way if in the latest version of the app there was some corrupted file or bug, it will be fixed with the new Telegram update and then you’ll hear it playing again.
Clear the app’s cache
There might be a problem with the messaging app’s cache and this might be the cause why Telegram doesn’t ring. You can clear Telegram’s cache and see if doing so can solve it, considering that, if you clear the app’s cache there will be no consequence for your contacts, accounts, groups, settings etc., everything will in fact remain as you left it, but it will only clear the cache that will then recreate itself when you go to use Telegram. So let’s see how to proceed to clear the cache of the Telegram app:
- Go to Android Settings
- Go to Apps and notifications > All apps
- Search for Telegram in the list, then tap on it to access the app’s About screen
- Tap on Storage and then on Clear Cache
Make sure you’ve enabled all the permissions needed for the app to work
You need to make sure that Telegram is able to use all the various features of your smartphone to allow it to work properly. Keep in mind that the steps below, may differ depending on your smartphone model and Android version:
- Go to the Settings of your Android phone
- Now go to Apps and notifications and select All apps
- Search from the list of all installed apps for the Telegram app
- Now click on Permissions and give permission to each item in the list that you find available
- Once you’ve given all the permissions to Telegram, check if you’ve fixed the sound and so now everything works normally, otherwise move on to the next solution
Delete and install Telegram again
If the above solutions didn’t work, first of all make sure that with the other apps the sounds work, so if maybe someone calls you you hear the ringtone or if you receive a message on other apps like SMS you can hear the notification sound. If you can hear the sounds in any other app, but you can’t with Telegram, you can try deleting the app and installing it again. Consider, however, that by deleting Telegram from your smartphone, you’ll have to re-verify your phone number and set the various options that you had previously modified. If this doesn’t bother you, then proceed as follows:
- Connect to Telegram’s Play Store page.
- Then press the Uninstall button
- Once Telegram has been uninstalled from your smartphone, still on its Play Store page you should now see the button that says Install. Tap it with your finger to proceed with the installation of Telegram on your phone
- Then proceed to open the Telegram app and configure it by following the steps that are shown on the screen, so once you’re done, you can check if Telegram now rings
Telegram is one of the best instant messaging apps, but sometimes it might give problems to its users. If you’ve noticed that Telegram isn’t beeping, you should have managed to fix it with the solutions that have been described in this guide and now the app should be working normally again. Until the next guide.
