It’s no secret that Gmail contains advertising. But with this article, we show you how to make it disappear.
Gmail is a free email service. However, its maintenance and operation generate costs to Google that must be covered somehow and one of the most effective methods to generate revenue is advertising. It is necessary to make it clear that Gmail ads are not too intrusive. But, although they are well integrated into the interface, they can sometimes be annoying. How to stop receiving advertising in Gmail? Read on to find out.
How to remove ads from Gmail
Advertising in the Gmail application can be removed in different ways. The quickest is to swipe the ad to the right or left to make it disappear. Actually, you should use the same gesture you would use to delete an email or archive it. This also tells Google that you are not interested in the ad, improving the personalized advertising system in Gmail.
On the other hand, you can also disable the smart inboxes, which is where advertising is most commonly displayed. To do this, do the following:
- Open Gmail settings.
- Tap on your account to view specific settings.
- Tap on Inbox Categories.
- Uncheck all the boxes.
Now, all your emails will be unified in a single inbox, called Main. According to our tests, using this system, Gmail ads disappear, at least temporarily. On the other hand, you will not enjoy a smart organization of your emails and everything that arrives on the server will be displayed in the inbox.
Another valid alternative to make Gmail ads disappear is to configure your account in a different client, developed by a third party. Obviously, it is important that you opt for one that does not include ads. Some interesting applications that will allow you to manage your mail without ads are Spark or Newton Mail.
When using a third-party application, most of the features will be available. As expected, you can send and receive your mails, use the phone’s address book, mark a conversation as read or move it to the archive. Alternative mail managers are also able to manage your folders or add a flag to any conversation, synchronizing all these changes in real-time.
How to stop receiving emails in Gmail
In addition to the advertising displayed in the Gmail application, users have to coexist with a multitude of advertising emails. Is it possible to get rid of these emails? The easiest way is to mark the email in question as spam. Gmail will then stop displaying them in the inbox and send them directly to the spam folder. After 30 days, all emails marked as spam are automatically deleted. To mark an email as spam do the following:
- Select the email you want to mark as spam.
- Open the three dots menu.
- Click on Mark as spam.
- Remember to check the spam folder from time to time so that you don’t overlook any important information that has mistakenly ended up there.
