Always open certain sites in incognito (Chrome) or anonymously (Firefox)

Make certain sites always open automatically in an anonymous mode in incognito in private windows with Firefox and Chrome

We all have a list of websites that we want to always open in incognito mode with Chrome or Firefox. There are many reasons to use incognito browsing, for example, to not memorize a visit to an embarrassing site or to open Facebook or Gmail with another account, or to try to log into one of our accounts so we can check the active security measures.

If we use, often or daily, anonymous or incognito browsing with the same sites, it can be very useful to open some pages automatically in incognito on Chrome and Firefox. When you click on a site selected from the Favorites bar or write its address, it will automatically open in a private window, so you won’t leave any traces and you’ll access the site as if it were the first time.

Open incognito sites on Chrome

For Google Chrome we can install the Auto Incognito Mode extension, which allows you to create a list of websites to be opened automatically in incognito mode.

For the sites to be opened in the incognito mode we can write them manually in the extension’s list or we can open a site normally and later press on the extension’s button to add it automatically. You can also give each added site a Name, which is what appears when you press on the extension, to hide the list of sites you always want to open incognito. After the addition we try to open a site added to the list: we will notice that the still open tab of the site will automatically close in Chrome to open in an incognito window.

If, on the other hand, we want to open an incognito Chrome session right away, we can follow two different paths. The first procedure involves right-clicking on the Google Chrome icon in the taskbar, so we can click on the New incognito browsing window.

If we want to open Google Chrome directly in incognito from the desktop we add the icon of the program on it, right-click on it, choose Properties and, in the Destination field, add a space (with the space bar) at the end of the path (without deleting it), add the string -incognito and finally press OK. From now on, pressing this shortcut on the desktop will immediately open Chrome in incognito mode, for all the sites we want to visit.

Open incognito sites in Firefox

For Firefox we can open certain sites incognito using the Open in Private Mode extension, a simple add-on that provides a button to open the displayed tab in private mode.

Once added to the browser make sure you provide permissions for incognito access, otherwise, it won’t work properly. To do so, click on the menu with the three lines in the top right corner, click on Add-ons and Themes, open the Extensions menu, click on the extension you just installed and scroll down until you find the item Operating in anonymous windows, so you can select Allow.

In addition to this extension, we can protect the privacy of individual bookmarks by downloading a very extension like Private Bookmarks; with it, we can add a password to bookmark folders or individual bookmarks, open only incognito windows and protect our privacy when using the Mozilla browser.

To always open Firefox in the incognito mode we can act directly from the settings of the browser, without having to change links. To proceed press again in the upper right of the menu with the three lines, click on Options, go to the menu Privacy and Security and, next to the section History Settings, select the item Do not save history in the same menu scroll up to find the item Delete cookies and website data when closing Firefox, which is worth activating right away. To make the incognito mode even more effective, go to the General menu and uncheck the item Restore the previous session.

Conclusions

By following the tips seen above we will be able to open some websites in an incognito mode right away, so as not to leave traces on a shared computer and also avoid embarrassment and unpleasant situations. If we have to visit a lot of incognito pages we should prepare a shortcut to open the browser in an incognito mode right away or prepare it to “forget everything” as soon as we press the X close button in the top right corner.
