Instagram takes a new step to copy Clubhouse. This way you can make live audio-only.
This 2021 has been the year of the Clubhouse application. A social network focused on meetings in virtual rooms to talk. A new format halfway between podcasts and radio where users can join, listen, chat and enjoy talks and content always through voice. Well, many have wanted to follow in its wake, and now it is Instagram who does it. But how to make Clubhouse-type audio meetings on Instagram? We explain how to do it thanks to a new feature.
It turns out that Facebook, Instagram’s parent company, wanted to take advantage of Clubhouse and, without launching a new service or application, has modified one of the functions of Instagram live. With just this change, which consists of turning off the camera in the directs, you can already enjoy an experience very similar to the Clubhouse rooms. Thus, you can reward voice-over video, and create live rooms with other users where thousands of people follow what is being said.
In other words, Instagram now allows you to cancel the video signal on video broadcasts of up to four people. They have also added the ability to mute or unmute the microphone. Small changes for live group broadcasts that are remarkably close to the Clubhouse experience. All of this is now available for Android and iPhone.
How to do voice-only live on Instagram
The process is really simple thanks to this new feature. And it comes in the form of a button to make quick use of it. It will be enough to launch a live Instagram as before. As you may already know, Instagram allows you to create Live Rooms to get together with up to three other people. You only have to send them an invitation and these people accept to join the live. That is, it will be a live sharing video and audio. This is where the novelty comes in.
You just have to click on the camera icon that has just been added to Instagram. As in any live video call, the broadcast continues without sending the video. That is, without showing the user who has clicked on the camera button to mute or turn it off. But the audio is still running, of course.
In this way, all members can, if they wish, deactivate the cameras on their mobile phones and create a voice room in the purest Clubhouse style. The live show continues with all their voices but without the need to look at the screen or pay attention to their gestures or appearance. The followers, of course, will be able to watch the broadcast in black or simply listen to what the users who launched the broadcast are saying.
And beware, the thing does not stop there. As with the rest of direct Instagram, once finished, it is possible to save it and get the audio recorded during the same. A very useful feature to edit this content cut the parts that do not interest and, if desired, create a podcast to publish on any other platform.
All this without leaving aside the new microphone button to mute, and that appears next to the camera. This makes it possible to stop sharing audio, as well as video, in complicated situations such as coughing or choking, for example. Or to give prominence to one of the colleagues who are already speaking live.
Of course, all these functions do not replace the possibilities of Clubhouse. All of its options for integrating more participants or letting users and listeners speak are left out. But it is all a statement of intent about the attention that Clubhouse has gained in recent months. Instagram copies it now with a slightly different format, but the basis is the same.
