All laptop users like to have as much battery as possible wherever they go. This is something that can be solved by taking into account in Windows that there are functions with which a computer saves more or less energy, especially when it is waiting for the user to take the initiative to send a signal of any action. It is at that moment when the machine may go to sleep mode and you may have to change the screen lock time in Windows.
What the lock screen is for
If there is something that all users expect from their machine is that it is as energy efficient as possible.
Sometimes it is difficult to achieve this, since the demand on the machine varies depending on the situation.
That is why there are different active battery modes depending on the needs of the terminal or the user, since they can be automated as is the case with the change in the Windows lock screen time.
Just as with your smartphone, computers have a function that turns them into a device that protects your data from prying eyes.
At least within the possibilities offered by a PIN code or any other type of biometric recognition.
And this is how this feature works, because when you stop using the computer, it will take some time before it locks.
Of course, the Redmond company has set a default timer to be activated, but today we are going to tell you how you can change the Windows screen lock time.
Here’s how you can change the screen lock time
There are many ways by which you can set a new screen lock time in Windows.
We are going to tell you all of them, because you never know when you will need an alternative function with which to make this simple change that influences so much in the security of your computer, whether personal or at work.
Let’s start with the simplest one which is through Windows settings:
- Go to Settings>Customization.
- Go to the “Lock Screen!” screen.
- Select Screen timeout settings!
- Choose the options that fit your needs.
If you are one of the users who have taken the step and upgraded the operating system, you don’t have to worry.
The steps are the same as the ones above and, as if that were not enough, the tricks we are going to show you below will also help you.
The next one is using the Registry, a section that we recommend you not to touch unless it is necessary. If you feel sure that you need to use this feature we advise you to make a restore point in case the process fails.
- Press Windows+R
- In execute type “Regedit”.
- Accept and in a new window go to the path Computer/HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Policies/System
- Enter the value “InactivityTimeoutSecs” and right click on it
- Double click and in the value section type in the number of seconds
- Accept the changes and restart your PC.
Whichever option you choose, you have one for every moment, although as we mentioned before, the first one is the simplest and most accessible of all, whichever way you look at it.
Now all you have to do is use the unlocking method that you prefer. Here you can choose between the typical PIN code data entry, which you can customize to your liking, or use a biometric entry such as Windows Hello.
In the latter case, you need to use your front camera to register your face and you can unlock the terminal with nothing more than your presence in front of the screen.
