What does the 1x that now appears in WhatsApp web audios mean?

The new feature is available on WhatsApp Web and the WhatsApp app for Android and iOS.

Do you get a 1X or a number when playing audio on WhatsApp Web or the desktop version? It’s not a bug, but a new feature that has been implemented by the messaging app to all users. We tell you what it means and how you can use this feature.

The 1X that appears next to the audios in WhatsApp Web or in the desktop version, is actually a button to be able to change the playback speed of the voice memo. This is the most recent feature of the messaging app. It is a very useful option if you have sent very long audio and want to listen to it quickly.

WhatsApp allows you to set three different speeds. 1X is the normal speed, as the person speaks. At 1.5x the playback will be slightly faster, while at 2X the playback will be twice as fast as the normal speed.

How to use WhatsApp web audio accelerator

Using WhatsApp Web audio accelerator is very simple. First of all, you have to download the latest version of WhatsApp on your mobile. You can do this from the app store, under “My apps” and “Updates”.

Now, just go to web.whatsapp.com and log in with your mobile. To log in, go to the WhatsApp app on your mobile, click on the 3 dots in the top area > Settings > WhatsApp Web. Focus the camera on the QR code that appears on your computer screen. You may be asked for a code or to confirm the action by facial recognition or fingerprint.

Next, find the audio you want to speed up and play it. You will see the profile picture change to a number. Tap on this number to change the speed and make the audio play faster. If you want to listen at 1.5X, click once on the number. To listen at 2X, click twice.
